"The artivist (artist + activist) uses their artistic talents to fight and struggle against injustice and oppression. The artivist merges commitment to freedom and justice with the pen, the lens, the brush, the voice, the body, and the imagination. The artivist knows that to make an observation is to have an obligation." M.K Asante
Print journalism
I started writing articles at seventeen during my civic service with Lire pour en Sortir, an non-profit that creates cultural programmes for detainees. I wrote book reviews featuring reader's comments and I reported on an author visiting detainees to talk about her book.
I am now the Artist Focus Editor at The Badger, Sussex University's newspaper.
Artist Focus Editor at The Badger
I interview artists based in Brighton to share their work with students. My editorial line is to feature marginalised and socially engaged artists to make them known amongst the student community while inspiring readers to create the art they want to make. Articles are printed and distributed fortnightly across campus.
I write the interview or hire a writer and edit their work, layout the InDesign and publish the article on WordPress.
